A million little shakes a million little signs that these awkward nights would lead to permanent goodbyes neon lights in nonsensical lines Everything's degrading all the time My friend call me back when I'm in better shape to react and we'll laugh again, sing it makes no difference Rick Danko's heartbreak lament All my colors gone and we're a three day driver from the nearest ocean I'd burn this skin to complete oblivion, soaking up all the rays I can My friend call me back when I'm in better shape to react and we'll laugh again, sing alone to The Weight the one song I know you wont forget I felt alive on the front seat of a tandem bike with air in my lungs and a pocket full of Dentyne Ice a tall beer in my hand for a long night ride, just enough to drink along the way My friend call me back when I'm in better shape to react and we'll laugh again, sing Rag Mama Rag tip our drinks to our heroes in The Band

Open the curtains squint at the sun make soup from the bones handwritten recipe torn in a rush the paper's yellowed We're out of the mulberry wine here's to the new year shouting out from an overgrown field here's hoping they'll hear I've lived in places I've tried to forget, the highs and the lows The beautiful losers that liter this places grass grows under their toes We're out of the mulberry wine here's to the new year shouting out from an overgrown field here's hoping they'll hear Woke up again to a belted kingfisher's call, such beautiful notes finally found you up in that tree, I'll follow you home We're out of the mulberry wine here's to the new year shouting out from an overgrown field here's hoping they'll hear

I'll admit 9 times out of 10 you're right you're not so lucky I guess that this is one of those times wandered out for a walk somehow got lost near where they're building that new nightclub I'll never go there but I'm glad that it's around it means music still matters it means people are still turning their thoughts into sound The hesitation in your voice really says it all I'm trying and I'm trying and I fell that you're not trying at all if you could choose your memories I'd surely send this one off and whistle past the graveyard on the way to the liquor store I always go there and I'm glad that it's around It means taste still matters it means that heaven exists in a bag of coffee grounds

That old Irish Setter she lays upon my shore through the wind and the weather she lays upon my shore that old Irish Setter she lays upon my shore and when it's time for supper she comes running towards the door That old Irish Setter she's been through the years Prosperity and struggles, laughter and the tears That old Irish Setter she's been through the years and when she claims her great reward we'll salute her with our beers That old Irish Setter there's never been one more true A constant companion, loyal through and through That old Irish Setter there's never been one more true Through storms that shook the heavens and skies of cloudless blue

about

1. A Million Little Shakes
This title references N.K. Jemisin's phenomenal Broken Earth trilogy of books. In the books, massive worldwide phenomena are condensed down and experienced through ultra personal responsibilities and anxieties. The first verse feels like an expression of that.
The refrains all reference a song by The Band with a capital B. I think they were on my mind after Robbie Robertson's new film and album came out. They are a huge influence.

2. Mulberry Wine
I started making my own mulberry wine with the early summer berry harvest. It taste's awesome by the way. It is one of those things that I may want to make into a tradition and pass down someday like so many polish recipes from my family. The lyrics reference those little scraps of yellowed paper that I cherish. The refrain poses the question of what to do and where to go when the party's over.

3. Heaven in a Bag of Coffee Grounds
I sometimes feel that music and how I experience it is being threatened by forces beyond my control. This song is about understanding change and the signs that are out there that reassure important things like music and taste still matter.
Change as a whole is the theme and is used in the form of neighborhood development, relationship struggles, and memory.

4.That Old Irish Setter
I really like traditional Irish music. I love dogs. This is me dipping my toe into Irish music with a traditional sounding melody about a dog.
